Super Eagles stand-in captain Wilfred Ndidi has been officially named vice-captain of Beşiktaş FC, following an announcement by the club’s Board of Directors on Friday.

In a statement released by the Turkish giants, the board confirmed that Turkish international Orkun Kökçü has been appointed as the new club captain, while Ndidi will serve as his deputy. The new leadership structure replaces long-serving captain Necip Uysal and vice-captain Mert Günok.

“With the decision of our President Serdal Island and the Board of Directors, changes have been made regarding the captaincy of our Football A Team. Based on the recommendation of our technical team and the effectiveness of players on the field, Orkun Kökçü has been appointed as first captain and Wilfred Ndidi as second captain,” the club announced.

Beşiktaş expressed its appreciation to Uysal and Günok for their past leadership and contributions, extending best wishes to the new captaincy duo as they assume their roles.

Ndidi, who joined Beşiktaş in August 2025 from Leicester City on a three-year deal, has quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad. His appointment further underscores his leadership qualities and influence both on and off the pitch.

The new captaincy team will debut their leadership duties when Beşiktaş, currently sixth in the Turkish Super Lig with 13 points from seven matches, host Gençlerbirliği S.K. on Saturday, October 18, for Matchday 8 of the season.#newsafro_
