The gospel music community in Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the death of renowned gospel singer and evangelist Toun Soetan at the age of 73.

News of her passing, which occurred on Thursday, was confirmed by several gospel ministers and close associates, who described the late singer as a devoted servant of God whose music ministry impacted countless lives across the country and beyond.

Tributes began pouring in from members of the gospel music industry, including popular gospel comedian Ayo Ajewole, who announced the news on social media and described her passing as a “glorious home call.”

Toun Soetan was widely respected for her contributions to gospel music and evangelism over several decades. She was best known for composing the popular Christian chorus “Darling Jesus,” a song that has remained a staple in churches and worship gatherings for many years.

Born in Lagos and raised in Ibadan, the late evangelist dedicated most of her life to spreading the Christian message through music and ministry. Her influence extended beyond the stage as she mentored many young gospel artists and ministers.

Church leaders and gospel singers have continued to pay tribute to her life and legacy, describing her as a pioneer whose songs and teachings strengthened the faith of many believers.

Although details of her burial arrangements have not yet been announced, family members and associates say plans are underway to celebrate a life devoted to service in God’s vineyard.

Her death marks the end of an era for many in the Nigerian gospel music community who grew up singing her songs and drawing inspiration from her ministry.
