Reps Express Concern Over Increasing Kidnappings, Killings in Ekiti

The House of Representatives (Nigeria) has raised serious concern over the increasing cases of kidnappings, killings and violent attacks in parts of Ekiti State, particularly in Ekiti North I (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency.

The alarm followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the lawmaker representing the constituency, Akin Rotimi Jr..

According to the lawmaker, criminal gangs operating from forests around the area have turned several communities into danger zones, forcing many farmers to abandon their farms while residents live in fear of attacks.

    Communities reportedly affected include:

    • Oke-Ako
    • Ipao
    • Irele
    • Itapaji
    • Iyemero
    • Ijowa

These communities are located in Ikole Local Government Area.

Rotimi also cited a disturbing incident in February 2026, where a woman was abducted, sexually assaulted and killed after kidnappers allegedly demanded ₦1.5 million ransom.

The House urged the Federal Government and security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army, to intensify operations and dismantle criminal camps in forests around the Ekiti–Kogi–Kwara border corridor.

Lawmakers also mandated relevant committees to engage security agencies and report back on steps taken to address the insecurity within four weeks.
