Wendy Osefo, a cast member of The Real Housewives of Potomac, had previously recounted the alleged burglary of her residence prior to her and her husband, Eddie Osefo, being arrested on Thursday on charges of fraud.
According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, the couple was indicted by a grand jury in Westminster, Maryland, on counts of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and making false statements to a law enforcement officer.
The Osefos had reported that several luxury handbags and jewelry items were stolen from their home while the family was away on vacation in April 2024. However, subsequent police investigations allegedly revealed that a number of the claimed items, valued at approximately $20,000, had been returned to retail stores for full refunds prior to the reported date of the burglary.
In a September 2023 episode of the Gabbing With Gib podcast, Wendy had discussed the purported incident in detail, stating:
“It happened because my family was away on spring break. It was our spring break trip with the kids, and I was just so heartbroken.”
She described the alleged event as deeply unsettling, adding that it occurred shortly before filming began for The Real Housewives of Potomac and had left her “uneasy.” The 41-year-old television personality, who shares three children — Karter (12), Kruz (9), and Kamrynn (6) — with her husband, emphasized how the incident had shaken her sense of security:
“We had just been violated, so to speak. It was the worst thing and so unexpected, especially since, from my vantage point and the investigator’s vantage point, it was targeted.”
She further noted that the neighborhood had enjoyed over two decades without any reports of burglary, calling the event “gut-wrenching” and likening their home’s new level of security to “Fort Knox.” Osefo added that the experience had changed her approach to privacy and social media use, remarking that she could no longer “live life freely” without considering potential risks.
Authorities allege that the couple falsely reported a loss of approximately $450,000 in personal property to their insurance company. Investigators also claim that Wendy was later seen wearing a diamond ring she had listed among the stolen items in a social media post made after the supposed break-in.
Law enforcement officials further assert that several of the items reported as stolen were returned to their original retailers, where full refunds were processed before the date of the alleged burglary.
Wendy and Eddie Osefo were both released on Friday after posting a $50,000 bond. The couple has not yet publicly commented on the charges.#newsafro_
