Actress Michelle Keegan, aged 38, is reportedly under consideration for her first Hollywood film role, following the international success of her performance in the Netflix series Fool Me Once.

According to reports, Ms. Keegan is being considered for the lead role in the forthcoming film adaptation of Gone Before Goodbye—a new crime thriller co-authored by Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben. Given Ms. Keegan’s prior collaboration with Mr. Coben on the Fool Me Once adaptation, Ms. Witherspoon is said to be particularly interested in bringing her on board for the project.

A source speaking at the London Literature Festival—where the novel was launched last Friday—revealed that “Harlan has been singing Michelle’s praises to Reese, and she was keen to meet her. They got on really well, and it was clear Reese was quite taken with Michelle. The plan is to adapt the book for film, and Michelle is the top choice to play the lead character, Maggie McCabe.”

The central character, Maggie McCabe, is described as a combat surgeon, a role that aligns with Ms. Keegan’s previous experience portraying Army medic Georgie Lane in the BBC series Our Girl. The source further added: “It’s early days, but both Harlan and Reese believe Michelle is perfectly suited for this role and hope she will join the production when the time is right.”

Representatives for both Ms. Keegan and Ms. Witherspoon have been contacted for official comment.

On social media, Ms. Keegan expressed admiration for Ms. Witherspoon, sharing a photograph with both the actress-producer and Mr. Coben on Instagram, accompanied by the caption:
“When two geniuses collide… ‘Gone Before Goodbye’ is made! (I can confirm Reese Witherspoon is everything you’d imagine her to be—what a woman.)”
Ms. Witherspoon responded: “So wonderful to meet you… finally!”

Ms. Keegan garnered critical acclaim for her portrayal of Maya Stern in Fool Me Once, in which she starred alongside Joanna Lumley. The series rapidly ascended to the top of Netflix’s global charts, cementing her status as one of Britain’s leading screen talents.

Mr. Coben has previously praised Ms. Keegan’s performance, expressing regret that her character’s storyline concluded in Fool Me Once. He has publicly remarked that he would “do anything to bring her back from the dead” for a sequel, describing her as a “major factor in the show’s overwhelming success.”

Speculation about Ms. Keegan’s potential move to Hollywood has circulated since 2024. In an interview with The Guardian, she addressed the possibility, stating:
“I went to America when Mark was out there. Didn’t like it. But let’s see. If a job comes up… I guess? I’ve never thought beyond what I’m doing right at that moment. And I think that’s how I live now as well. I don’t think in terms of goals—I live in the moment.”#newsafro_
