Since January 27, 2024, when His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, FCA, assumed office as the Executive Governor of Kogi State, I have watched with keen interest how he has redefined governance through actions that speak directly to the welfare of our people. As a proud Kogite and Convener of the Babayemi Vanguard, I feel a strong sense of satisfaction witnessing how our dear state has continued to experience steady progress under his watch.

From the very beginning, Governor Ododo made it clear that his focus would be service, not politics. His leadership style is calm, inclusive, and focused on results. He listens, consults widely, and acts decisively. These qualities have set him apart as a leader who genuinely understands the needs of his people and is committed to delivering practical solutions.

I must sincerely appreciate his predecessor, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON, for laying a solid foundation upon which this administration is building. The seamless transition of leadership and continuation of major policies have brought stability, ensured continuity, and strengthened our development agenda. It takes wisdom and political maturity to consolidate on what works rather than discard it.

Equally, I cannot ignore the steadfast support of the good people of Kogi State. Their faith in the leadership of Governor Ododo has remained a strong pillar of encouragement for the administration. Across the three senatorial districts, the unity and cooperation of our citizens have played a major role in driving the success stories we celebrate today.

One of the major interventions that gladdened my heart was the reactivation of the Student Bursary Scheme. For several years, our students had been denied this important support, but Governor Ododo revived it to relieve the financial burdens of thousands of young Kogites studying in different tertiary institutions across Nigeria. This singular action rekindled hope among students and parents alike.

In the health sector, the story has been equally impressive. The commissioning of 80 Primary Healthcare Centres across various communities in the state is one of the most impactful achievements so far. These centers are not just buildings; they represent lives saved, comfort restored, and accessibility to healthcare in rural areas that had long been neglected.

Still on healthcare, the approval of N300,000 hazard allowance for medical doctors practicing in Kogi State shows a rare level of empathy and foresight. By recognizing the sacrifices of our health workers, the Governor has boosted their morale and encouraged many to stay and serve with renewed commitment.

Another milestone worth celebrating is the prompt payment of salaries and pension allowances. For many years, irregular payment was a serious issue in public service, but under Governor Ododo, that has changed. Workers and retirees now receive their entitlements promptly, a development that has enhanced trust and improved household income across the state.

His administration also enrolled pensioners and public servants into the State Health Insurance Scheme, a move that guarantees access to quality and affordable healthcare. This is not only innovative but also deeply considerate, as it secures the wellbeing of those who have served the state diligently.

What fascinates me most about Governor Ododo’s style is how he has demystified governance in Kogi State. He carries the people along, communicates openly, and ensures transparency in government dealings. Through town hall meetings and public engagements, he has brought governance closer to the people, erasing the long-standing perception of government as distant or inaccessible.

The Governor’s deliberate investment in youth development has also been outstanding. Through a partnership with the Nigerian-Korean Friendship Institute, over 20,000 Kogi youths have been trained and equipped with skills ranging from mechatronics to ICT and entrepreneurship. This massive empowerment drive has reduced unemployment, encouraged innovation, and given many young people a sense of purpose and pride.

Another commendable stride is the payment of backlog debts inherited from previous administrations. This bold decision has significantly improved the state’s debt profile and reputation. By clearing these financial burdens, the Governor has positioned Kogi State for stronger economic credibility and better access to development opportunities.

In all honesty, Governor Ododo has reimposed confidence in governance through his integrity, prudence, and determination to serve without distractions. His administration’s achievements within a short period reflect discipline, planning, and a sincere desire to make life better for the people.

As someone who has observed his leadership closely, I can confidently say that Kogi people are not only happy but are eager to reward him with their votes come 2027. The level of grassroots support and collective enthusiasm is overwhelming, and it speaks volumes about the Governor’s growing acceptance across the state.

Through the Babayemi Vanguard, I will continue to mobilize support for Governor Ododo’s administration. His achievements so far have strengthened my conviction that Kogi State is on the path of sustained growth and prosperity. Our duty as citizens is to encourage and support him to do even more for our collective good.

Finally, I wish to reaffirm our total loyalty to the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. As a state, we are fully aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda, and we stand solidly in support of the President’s re-election when the time comes. Governor Ododo’s development strides are a clear reflection of that national vision, as both leaders share the same passion for progress, inclusiveness, and service to humanity.

Kogi State is moving forward, and with the steady hands of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the journey to a greater tomorrow is assured.
