The Nigeria Police Force has commenced an investigation into a viral assault incident involving students at Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City, following widespread public outrage on social media.

The incident, which was captured in a video circulating online, allegedly shows a student being physically assaulted by fellow students, sparking serious concerns about student safety and bullying in schools.

In response to the development, police authorities confirmed that they have begun a probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including identifying those involved and determining the events leading to the assault.

The Edo State Police Command assured the public that appropriate actions will be taken once investigations are concluded, stressing that violence and abuse in educational institutions will not be tolerated.

Education stakeholders and parents have also called for stronger supervision, disciplinary measures, and awareness programs to address issues related to bullying and violence among students.

The investigation is expected to provide clarity on the incident and ensure accountability where necessary.
