The Kwara State Police Command has categorically denied a viral social media report alleging the abduction and murder of a female police officer serving in the state.
According to the widely circulated claim, a female Police Inspector, reportedly serving as a prosecutor, was said to have been kidnapped and later found dead in the Oloje area of Ilorin.
However, in a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, described the report as “entirely false and deeply distressing,” cautioning members of the public against disseminating unverified information capable of inciting fear and panic.
“The Command wishes to state unequivocally that this report is not only false but also misleading, with the intent to cause panic in the state. Members of the public are hereby advised to disregard this misleading information, as there is no report of any female police officer missing or abducted in any division in the state,” the statement read in part.
SP Ejire-Adeyemi further clarified that there is no police division known as ‘Ogidi’ in Kwara State, contrary to what was alleged in the viral report, describing the fabrication as a deliberate attempt to mislead unsuspecting members of the public.
She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Adekunbi Ojo, to ensuring the protection of lives and property, maintaining public order, and operating with the highest standards of transparency and professionalism.
“The Command is cooperating fully with other security agencies to ensure the continued safety and security of residents across the state. We urge the public and media outlets to refrain from sharing unverified or sensationalized information that could cause unnecessary panic or harm the reputation of the state,” she added.
Residents were further advised to rely solely on verified information from the Command’s official communication channels — X (@kwara_ppro), Facebook (Kwara State Police Command), and its WhatsApp Channel.#newsafro_
