Grammy Award-winning international recording artiste, Ciara Princess Wilson, has arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, on a cultural engagement aimed at celebrating the State’s expanding global prominence in tourism, art, and fashion.

The visit—described as a “homecoming” for the global superstar—coincides with the 15th anniversary of Lagos Fashion Week, a milestone event marking Lagos’ continued influence in the creative and cultural industries.

The development was formally announced on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on New Media, Mr. Jubril Gawat, through an official statement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

    According to Mr. Gawat:

“International Superstar and Grammy Award Winner, Ciara Princess Wilson, is in Lagos, accompanied by the Honorable Commissioner for Tourism, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka. She will be joining us in Lagos to celebrate our tourism, our art, and our culture. It is a homecoming for her and for other creatives who regard Lagos as home. During her visit, she will tour various cultural landmarks and participate in the commemoration of the 15th anniversary of Lagos Fashion Week, held in collaboration with the Lagos State Government.”

Ciara, visibly delighted by the warmth of her reception, has actively participated in several cultural activities during her stay. In video footage circulated on social media by Mr. Gawat, the artiste was seen engaging joyfully with local performers at an art gallery while attired in a traditional blue adire gown and matching headgear.

During the event, she expressed her affection for Lagos by proclaiming the city’s enduring motto, “Eko ò ní bàjé”—meaning “Lagos will not be ruined.”

As part of her itinerary, the visiting star also toured the Balogun Market, one of Lagos’ most vibrant commercial centers, where she interacted with traders and explored the city’s thriving fashion scene.

In another recorded statement, Ciara commended the visible infrastructural progress witnessed in Lagos since her last visit. She remarked:

“I’m happy to be here. I’m really excited. I know about Lagos. From what I see, I’ve witnessed the evolution of Lagos. When I used to land, I would see dirt roads; now, what I see is pavement.”

This marks Ciara’s second official visit to Lagos, following her 2016 appearance as the headline act at the “Love Like A Movie 3” concert held at the Eko Convention Center, Victoria Island.

Her 2025 visit underscores Lagos State’s rising status as a continental hub for fashion, culture, and entertainment, reaffirming its role in shaping Africa’s global creative economy.#newsafro_
