On Saturday evening, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (“LACMA”) hosted the fourteenth annual Art+Film Gala, an event convened to celebrate the intersection of visual art and cinema and to raise funds in furtherance of the institution’s curatorial and educational mandates.
The gala, co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio and LACMA Trustee Eva Chow since its inception, honored filmmaker Ryan Coogler, recognized for his contributions to the Black Panther and Creed franchises and his recent feature Sinners, as well as visual artist Mary Corse. Pursuant to information contained on LACMA’s official website, proceeds derived from the event are allocated toward the integration of film into the museum’s broader programming and the advancement of its institutional mission.
Distinguished guests in attendance included multiple high-profile figures from the entertainment industry, among whom Demi Moore and Doja Cat drew particular attention for their striking attire. Ms. Moore, 62, whose recent Oscar-nominated role in The Substance marked a career resurgence, appeared in a sleeveless halter gown fashioned from sheer black mesh, embellished with multicolored sequined floral motifs. Her ensemble was complemented by crimson nail lacquer and coiffed raven hair swept over one shoulder.
Recording artist Doja Cat (née Amala Dlamini), 30, attended in a gold sequined gown featuring a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit, accessorized with a short, curled blonde wig and black pointed-toe pumps, thus evoking elements of vintage Hollywood glamor.
Other notable attendees included Cynthia Erivo, who wore an off-the-shoulder white gown embroidered with eye-shaped designs and a gray tulle train; Salma Hayek, attired in a key lime sequined dress with flared sleeves; and Angela Bassett, who channeled 1920s style in a gold tasseled gown.
Demi Lovato opted for a more conservative midnight-blue off-shoulder gown paired with brown heels, while Emma Roberts donned a cream spangled dress reminiscent of 1960s couture. Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber appeared together, each in sequined gowns of gold and crimson respectively.
Additional appearances were made by Hannah Einbinder, Quinta Brunson, Elle Fanning, Tessa Thompson, Zoey Deutch, Queen Latifah and her partner Eboni Nichols, Billie Lourd, Ashley Park, Dixie D’Amelio, Elsa Hosk, Kristen Wiig, and Kerry Washington, among others.
In lieu of a conventional red-carpet arrangement, attendees posed for photographs before Chris Burden’s “Urban Light”, an installation comprising 202 restored antique street lamps and one of LACMA’s most recognizable architectural features.#newsafro_
