The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), moving the tournament from its initial March schedule to July 2026.
The competition, which will be hosted in Morocco, was originally scheduled to take place from March 17 to April 3 but will now hold between July 25 and August 16, 2026, following consultations with partners including FIFA.
CAF said the decision was taken due to “unforeseen circumstances” and to ensure the successful organisation of Africa’s premier women’s football tournament.
The tournament will feature 16 national teams and also serve as a qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
More details shortly.
