During a recent appearance on the Smart Girl Dumb Questions podcast, American DJ and record producer, Diplo, stirred reactions after he made a tongue-in-cheek remark suggesting he had dated both singer Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
While discussing Perry’s new relationship with Trudeau, Diplo, 46, interjected humorously when host Nayeema Raza mentioned Perry, saying, “Dated Katy Perry, like me? I did.” He then added, “I did date Trudeau too. That was a weird one though, because I’m not into politicians.”
The podcast later clarified that Diplo’s comments regarding Trudeau were made in jest, confirming he was joking.
Nonetheless, the DJ did share a brief romantic history with Perry in 2014. The pair were spotted together several times in New York City, though reports at the time differed as to whether their relationship was serious or platonic.
Diplo’s remarks come as Perry, 41, and Trudeau, 53, continue to make headlines for their newly confirmed relationship. The couple, first linked in July after being seen dining at a Montreal restaurant, recently went public while celebrating Perry’s 41st birthday in Paris.
Perry, who is currently on her Lifetimes world tour, appeared to confirm the romance during a concert in Prague when she told fans, “No! I am dating someone else, for crying out f**ing loud.”*
The pop star’s new relationship follows her recent split from longtime partner and actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a five-year-old daughter, Daisy.
