Some unidentified persons suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted a consultant neurosurgeon, identified as Dr. T. Mbanugo, at Uruagu, Nnewi, within the Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to reports, the medical practitioner was allegedly seized by armed assailants along the New Nnewi–Oba Road in the late hours of Thursday, October 30, 2025.
A senior official of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Anambra State Chapter, who requested anonymity, confirmed the incident to journalists on Friday, stating that relevant security and governmental agencies had been duly notified. The official further disclosed that efforts were ongoing to track the perpetrators and urged colleagues to remain vigilant and prayerful.
The Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, also confirmed the abduction, noting that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, had ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
According to SP Ikenga, preliminary findings indicate that the victim was abducted under yet-to-be-determined circumstances. The Commissioner has consequently directed the deployment of tactical teams to secure the safe release of the victim and apprehend the suspects.
The Command, while assuring the public of its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order, appealed to residents—particularly within Nnewi and its environs—to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative by providing credible information that may aid the ongoing investigation.
This development follows a similar incident in Ondo State, where gunmen reportedly kidnapped a truck driver, Mr. Tobi Oluwatuyi, along the Akure–Owo Expressway at Ilu Abo in Akure North Local Government Area, while he was attempting to repair his vehicle.#newsafro_
