Afrobeats artist and philanthropist, David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, on Sunday inaugurated a newly constructed female hostel at Clifford University, Abia State, dedicated to the memory of his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke.
The commissioning took place during the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony, where Davido also delivered the commencement address to the graduating class.
In a post shared on his official X handle, @Davido, the singer reflected on his interaction with the graduates, urging them to lead with purpose and use their gifts to create meaningful impact.
“When I looked into their faces, I saw the same fire that built me — that hunger to be seen, to make something out of nothing, to turn pain into power.
I told them that talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning,” he wrote.
Davido described the hostel dedication as a tribute to his late mother’s legacy as an educationist and philanthropist, noting that the building symbolized her lifelong commitment to education, compassion, and empowerment.
“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and giver who believed education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy,” he stated.
The event, attended by university management, students, and invited guests, featured the unveiling of the Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel and a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Davido was joined by his close associate and nightlife entrepreneur, Cubana Chief Priest, who pledged to sponsor the tuition of 50 students of the institution.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Clifford University, Professor Chimezie Omeonu, commended Davido for his philanthropic gesture and contribution to the advancement of education in Nigeria, describing him as “a source of inspiration to young Africans aspiring to excellence.”
The event concluded with a tour of the new facility, which the university described as a beacon of empowerment and a monument to enduring legacy.#newsafro_
