The Federal Government has issued a travel and safety advisory to Nigerians residing in the Islamic Republic of Iran and several Gulf states following heightened military tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement released through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government urged Nigerians in the affected countries to remain vigilant, prioritize their personal safety, and closely monitor developments in their areas of residence. The advisory comes amid escalating hostilities in parts of the region, raising concerns about potential security risks.
According to the statement, Nigerians are strongly advised to avoid non-essential travel, stay away from sensitive locations such as military facilities and government installations, and refrain from participating in large public gatherings or demonstrations. Citizens were also encouraged to comply strictly with directives issued by local authorities.
The government further directed Nigerians to maintain regular contact with the nearest Nigerian diplomatic missions for guidance and support. Embassies and consulates in the region have reportedly been placed on alert to provide necessary assistance and updates as the situation evolves.
Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of citizens abroad, the Federal Government stated that it is closely monitoring developments and will continue to provide timely information as needed. It also called for restraint and diplomatic engagement among concerned parties to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional stability.
