Following the passing of Mr. Carl Dean—husband of country music icon Ms. Dolly Parton—details of his last will and testament have been publicly disclosed, amid recent speculation concerning Ms. Parton’s health.

According to probate documents obtained by Us Weekly, Mr. Dean’s will, executed in 2013, designates Ms. Parton as the sole beneficiary of his estate. The document reportedly encompasses his personal and real property, including items associated with Ms. Parton’s legendary music career, such as stage costumes, photographs, vehicles, and related memorabilia.

The will further references the possible existence of a handwritten memorandum directing the disposition of certain personal effects. In the event that such a note cannot be located, Ms. Parton, now aged seventy-nine, shall bear responsibility for allocating those items at her discretion. She has also petitioned to serve as executor of the estate, thereby assuming full authority over its administration in accordance with applicable Tennessee probate laws.

Mr. Dean’s testamentary dispositions reflect a marriage spanning nearly six decades. The couple’s relationship began in 1964 when they met outside a laundromat in Nashville. They married two years later, in 1966, and renewed their vows in 2016 to commemorate their fiftieth anniversary. Throughout their union, Mr. Dean maintained a private life, while Ms. Parton frequently described him as her most devoted supporter despite his aversion to public attention.

The release of the will coincides with heightened public concern regarding Ms. Parton’s health. Earlier this week, she issued a video statement addressing widespread speculation after canceling several scheduled appearances. In the clip—recorded on the set of a Grand Ole Opry commercial—she assured fans that she was “not dying,” acknowledging only minor health issues for which she is receiving treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Ms. Parton explained that she had neglected her own wellbeing while caring for her late husband during his prolonged illness, resulting in “a few things” that now required medical attention. She confirmed that her decision to postpone engagements was precautionary and expressed gratitude for the concern and prayers of her supporters, remarking:

“I want you to know that I’m okay… I’m not ready to die yet. I don’t think God is through with me, and I ain’t done working.”

The country legend also humorously dismissed false rumors generated by altered online images purporting to show her on her deathbed, joking that “if I was really dying, I don’t think Reba [McEntire] would be the one at my deathbed.”

Her remarks followed social media posts by her sister, Ms. Freida Parton, who had earlier requested prayers for Dolly’s recovery. Ms. Freida later clarified that her comments had been misinterpreted and that her sister had merely been “a little under the weather.”

Ms. Parton’s recent health-related cancellations include a Las Vegas residency originally scheduled for December and a Dollywood appearance in September, both postponed to allow her to remain close to home while receiving treatment. Despite these temporary setbacks, she continues to emphasize her intent to return to performing and to remain active in her creative and philanthropic pursuits.#newsafro_
