Actress and recording artist Jennifer Lopez, aged 56, has disclosed that she underwent a significant and intentional weight reduction in preparation for her leading role in the forthcoming musical film Kiss of the Spider Woman. In an interview with Gayle King on Sunday Mornings, Ms. Lopez stated that she became “very thin” for the role, explaining that one of her characters—a “blonde Hollywood bombshell”—required a markedly leaner physique.
The film was produced in April 2024, during the period in which Ms. Lopez was reportedly separating from her husband, actor Ben Affleck. While public speculation at the time attributed her weight loss to emotional distress stemming from marital difficulties, Ms. Lopez has now clarified that her physical transformation was undertaken exclusively for professional purposes.
Functional nutritionist Monica Partier, who is not affiliated with Ms. Lopez, provided an independent assessment estimating that the performer’s weight was approximately 125 pounds during production—roughly 10 pounds lower than her typical weight of 135 pounds. Ms. Partier described this as “a very healthy weight” for Ms. Lopez, who stands 5 feet 5 inches tall and maintains a muscular build due to consistent physical training.
The nutritionist further opined that the rapid reduction likely resulted from a sugar-, dairy-, and refined carbohydrate-free regimen, citing such dietary adjustments as among the most efficient short-term strategies for controlled weight loss.
Ms. Lopez has previously discussed her experience with a similar “no sugar, no carbs” dietary challenge undertaken in 2019 with then-fiancé Alex Rodriguez, which she described as “harder than I thought” and one that left her “hungry all the time.”
In more recent interviews, Ms. Lopez emphasized that fitness and self-care remain central to her well-being, stating to Hello! magazine that maintaining her health allows her to better care for those she loves. She also expressed optimism regarding her personal life, remarking that increased self-awareness and resilience have made her “hopeful” and “excited for everything in the future,” including the prospect of new relationships.#newsafro_
